President's Message
Addis Ababa City Courts are the legal interpreters of the city administration and are established as courts of appeal and first instance. The main purpose of the courts is to protect human rights and freedoms, to resolve cases brought before them, to ensure accountability for violations of the law, to ensure the rule of law, and to gain public trust by providing justice.
The goal of the courts is to provide justice, and people come to the courts in search of justice. Justice is an absolute value that is not limited by time and place, and has always been true throughout the ages, and is above the principles of law, and it binds all human beings in the balance of conscience. When we weigh justice on the balance of conscience, we give everyone what they deserve without discrimination. The courts are considered to be a part of the government and they administer justice by combining law with evidence. It is not right to say that an unjust decision has legal and evidentiary support. The measure of the knowledge and standing of judges for justice is to provide justice by weighing evidence, accepting and rejecting it with reason and giving the appropriate interpretation of the law.
Addis Ababa City Courts are founded on the eternal value of justice. Our courts, as an Ethiopian judicial system, are established as a bridge between justice and the people by ensuring the rule of law, protecting human rights and interests, and providing fair and efficient judicial services.
The government has set a direction for the reform of the courts to be able to provide modern judicial services. Therefore, among the reforms that Addis Ababa City Courts are undertaking, we have begun a historic journey of transforming the judicial service from paper to a digital system. In this way, we have established a data center and connected all courts through a network, laying the foundation for the use of technology. Our next task is to accelerate the journey from paper to digital by enhancing technology and adding innovation. By doing so, we are working hard to meet the needs of our current and future generations by building a fast, transparent and accountable judicial system.
The responsibility of ensuring justice by providing judicial services in the courts lies with the judges. The public's trust in the courts is built when judges have strong personalities, are independent and impartial from any party, and are subject only to the truth, the law and their conscience. This indicates that the ethics and good character of judges are as important as knowledge of the law. When judges give clear and fair decisions free from fear and prejudice, they are not only resolving the cases before them, but also laying the foundation for justice that will last for centuries.
Our people expect and deserve justice without discrimination, transparent, efficient and accessible, and the law is applied equally to all. Doing so is our duty and earthly calling as judges. Therefore, we, as Addis Ababa City Courts, are committed to providing justice with good character, efficiency, and competence. Our mission is not limited to deciding cases, but to safeguarding the ultimate value of justice, which is the hope of human existence. Justice is not temporary, but eternal. Our primary duty and obligation is to preserve the eternity of justice and faithfully deliver it to those who deserve it!!
